Parkinson's Disease Support Groups and Events
The Duke Movement Disorders Center is proud to participate in a variety of events to support and educate individuals with Parkinson's and their carepartners, including regular support groups, introductory programs to provide basic information on Parkinson's, workshops for couples, and monthly singing and communications workshops. Monthly Support Groups
Patients diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, as well as their care partners, are welcome to attend the Durham Parkinson's Disease Support Group, held from 10:30 a.m. to noon on the fourth Tuesday of every month. This free support group, sponsored by the Parkinson Foundation, is open to all (you do not have to be a Duke patient to attend).

Love and Parkinson's: Maintaining Strong Partnerships for Couples - September 13
The Movement Disorders Centers at UNC Chapel Hill and Duke have teamed up to offer this educational and hands-on workshop intended for couples directly impacted by Parkinson’s disease or an atypical Parkinsonism diagnosis (MSA, PSP, CBD).
This event will be held Friday, September 13, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Maggiano's Little Italy at the Streets of Southpoint (8030 Renaissance Drive, Durham NC)
Topics will include:
- Recognizing the impact of a diagnosis and symptoms on couples
- Let’s talk about sex
- Tackling the journey together: Communication is key
- Continuing the connection: Intimacy & romance
Loud and Proud 2019
A monthly speech and communication group for Parkinson's disease led by the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology. Caregivers are welcome.Come learn effective speech strategies, practice communication skills, and SING!
