Chronic or recurring headaches and head pain cause pain and other devastating effects on quality of life and day-to-day living. The Duke Neurology Headache division is dedicated to helping patients find relief from both of these areas.

Education and Training

Our division offers a variety of educational opportunities within the Duke Pain and Palliative Care Clinic. All residents gain exposure to the evaluation and treatment of pain during inpatient and outpatient experiences.

Fellowship Program

The Duke Department of Neurology is seeking candidates for its new headache fellowship program. Candidates should be board-eligible or certified physicians who are interested in headache and head pain.

This week’s Spotlight interview shines on our newest headache fellow, Mina Essak, DO.

U.S. News & World Report ranked Duke University Hospital as the top hospital in North Carolina and the 23rd best across the nation for neurology and neurosurgery in its 2022-2023 hospital rankings.

This June, members of the Duke Neurology Department contributed to 12 new peer-reviewed journal articles as well as two new book chapters.

The Duke Neurology Department continued to grow and expand its missions of providing excellent clinical care, conducting research to improve our understanding of neurological conditions and how to treat them, and training the next generation of neurologists throughout 2021.
