Stroke remains one of the greatest and most devastating health challenges of our time. Nowhere is this more urgent than here at home: eleven states in the Southeast carry a disproportionally high burden of stroke incidence and mortality, a region long known as the "Stroke Belt." Several counties in the Carolinas and Georgia are the "buckle of the Stroke Belt," with stroke striking our families, neighbors, and communities at alarming rates. At Duke University Hospital, our Comprehensive Stroke Center is on the frontlines-treating, preventing, and driving recovery for thousands of patients every year.
