In 2019, the Duke Neurology Department began giving "All Star" Awards to recognize members of our Department who go above and beyond the call of duty in their commitment to excellent patient care, research, and education. To date more than 50 of our staff, faculty, trainees, and other members of our Department have received this award.
At the end of each month, Duke Neurology All Stars are announced in our weekly Department newsletter. Winners also receive a free "Duke Neurology All Star" coffee mug.

Things like this mean so much to the team and makes them feel included and “seen”. Sarah has a special way of making sure everyone is heard, knows their value, and has a place on the team. Sarah also tries to find ways that includes everyone in communication and help improve efficiency. We are very thankful to work with her." Nominated by Lindsy Anthony, MSN May 2022 |

| Cynthia Parker, Sarah Berry Samantha Lowenberg, and Kim Askren "I would like to nominate Cynthia, Sarah, Sam, and Kim for the Duke Neurology All-Star award. On a hectic clinic day, I was able to go through it smoothly because of their strong work. Cynthia and Sarah were so flexible in helping me accommodate patients who were late and those who were early, while Sam and Kim facilitated sending one of my patients to the ED. What they have done is very personal to me, and I would like to share the context but hope that its privacy is maintained. There were four deaths in the last five months in my immediate family back home in the Philippines, with one involving the suicide of my young nephew just last Saturday. None of them knew about my situation. I came to work with a heavy heart. When my day started to be chaotic, I felt I wanted to break down. But I was able to make it - because of the everyday professional actions that they do." Nominated by Irene Abella, MSN April 2022 |
| Allison Allen, LCSW Clinical Social Worker "I was hoping to highlight one of our clinical social workers, Allison Allen, for an All Star Award. She went above and beyond in helping coordinate and counsel a patient about a rare diagnosis while out of the office. I am incredibly grateful for her care for this patient." Nominated by Dylan Ryan January 2022 |
Duke Neurology All Star Awards recognize faculty, staff, trainees, and students from across our Department who go above and beyond the call of duty in their commitment to excellent patient care, research, and education. There are no formal requirements for an All Star Award, which can recognize either a single outstanding accomplishment or dedication at a day-to-day level.
