D Fear

David Fear, MD
"David always has a positive attitude with every consult. On a night shift, he saw that his clinic patient was admitted to the gen med service and noticed that they did not start antibiotics for an elevated ascitic fluid cell count. He went above and beyond his role as a neurology JAR and made sure that all patients across services were safe overnight."
Nominated by Megumi Sugita, DO

O Wulf

Olivia Wulf Detweiler, NP-C
"I wanted to highlight the extra effort that Olivia Wulf Detweiler, one of our stroke APPs, put in for one of our patients last week on stroke service. A patient with very active lupus with antiphospholipid syndrome on service toward shift change developed early signs of decompensation.

Olivia not only coordinated a MICU consult, but also astutely developed a differential with workup to stabilize this patient on the floor while working well beyond shift change. This helped provide significant anticipatory guidance for the night intern and helped this patient have clinical improvement.

Olivia did this while also providing direct, clear, and concise information about her ongoing plan to myself and the attending. Seeing him feeling bright and smiling in the morning the next day made us all thankful for Olivia's commitment and all her hard work."
Nominated by Dylan "Rhino" Ryan, MD

B Scott

Burton Scott, MD, PhD
"Dr. Scott deserves an All Star Award for his compassionate care and support of a Parkinson's patient and her family that were admitted during my time at Duke Raleigh Hospital. He went above and beyond to touch base every day with us and the family and help provide support and medication adjustments - we were all very fortunate to have him involved in her care."
Nominated by Maggie Soltis, MD

Profiles

Roshni Dhoot, MD, and Teikko Artis
"Roshni and Teikko deserve an All Star Award for their recent work planning and managing the recent visit and Grand Rounds lecture from Aaron Berkowitz. Roshni invited Dr. Berkowitz to give a stellar talk on dilemmas in global neurology and introduced him before his talk and Teikko handled all the details of his visit. The lecture was a huge success thanks to their work."
Nominated by Rich O'Brien, MD, PhD

All Star profiles

Christine Dziwis, MD, and River Jordan, MD
"I wanted to highlight the work of Christine Dziwis and River Jordan as All Stars. River and Christine responded to a stroke code on a patient with an LVAD who had a large vessel occlusion. They advocated for advanced therapies for this patient who had facial weakness, dysarthria, and a gaze preference. Her NIHSS went from 8 to 2 after endovascular therapy and she is now without motor or speech deficits. Their care for this patient and coordination while another stroke code was occurring was outstanding. I am so thankful that they were able to respond to this case and achieve a great outcome"
Nominated by Dylan "Rhino" Ryan, MD

Stacey Bennett, MSN, and Vishal Mandge, MD, MPH
"Vishal Mandge and Stacey Bennett displayed awesome teamwork covering for a sick colleague."
Nominated by Matt Luedke, MD
