MS (Neuropsysiology): American University of Beirut
PhD (Biomedicine and Neuroscience): University of Palermo
Malak Fouani, PhD, is a Lebanese biomedical graduate who obtained her MS in neurophysiology at American University of Beirut and went to on to obtain her PhD in Biomedicine and Neuroscience at BiND Department at the University of Palermo between 2019 and 2022. Her doctoral work was a collaborative project between both the University of Palermo and The American University of Beirut establishing ties of collaboration with success and fulfillment, resulting in several impactful publications. This project was titled "Rheumatoid Arthritis Induced By Intra-articular Injection Of Freund’s Adjuvant Enhances The Expression Of Various Hsps In Sensory Neurons And Glial Cells In The Dorsal Horn Of The Spinal Cord."
Fouani's fascination with the field of neuroscience and her deep curiosity to explore the intricate mechanisms underlying cognition, behavior, and neurological disorders led her to join the lab of Carlene Moore, PhD. This work allows her the opportunity to study the migraine pathophysiology and its underlying pathways, to ultimately contribute to a broader comprehension of neuroinflammatory processes and potential therapeutic targets. Fouani's goal is to become a principal investigator in the field of neurology and establish her own research laboratory and perform cutting-edge research.
