Department of Neurology Staff Awards Announced
The Department of Neurology is excited to introduce an annual tradition of acknowledging members of our staff for their dedication, innovation, and excellence in service. Four award categories have been established and nominations are asked of faculty, leadership and managers. The 2025 recipients were announced at a first-ever all-staff meeting that occurred on May 12. We are thrilled to instill this tradition and celebrate the inaugural group of nominees and awardees (in bold) below.

Margarethe Goetz PhD, PA-C Awarded 2024 APP Clinical Excellence Award
Margarethe Goetz PhD, PA-C was one of six Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) awarded a 2024 Duke APP Clinical Excellence Awards as part of National Advanced Practice Provider Week. There were over 160 nominees nominated for having demonstrated exceptional commitment, dedication, expertise, and impact within the Duke Health system.
Goetz is a Physician Assistant on the Duke Raleigh Hospital Neurology Consult Team.

Staff Spotlight: Steve Polack
Before coming to Duke, Steve Polack worked at an psychiatric hospital for children and adolescents, where he saw first-hand the urgent need for care in this area as well as the impact psychiatric care could have on a patient’s life. Now, Polack is a staff assistant in our Morreene Road Clinic, where he’s both maintaining provider-patient schedules and learning about day-to-day patient care.
